So I've signed up with spn_30snapshots to write 30 fics, each between 100 and 1,000 words. My prompt table is here, and I've just written my first one to prompt 11 of that table, which is 'heat'.

They will all be Sam/Dean, and they will all vary in terms of schmoop, angst, hurt/comfort, etc. So basically it's me shamelessly indulging my kinks without having to tell one huge, cohesive story to do so..*g*

This first one is 415 words, it's hurt/comfort, and it's set vaguely post S4.

And a hug and a kiss to ancastar for taking a break from her own scribbling to cast her expert eye in its direction.

I have no idea if this will show up on lj as I can't check it - but I thought I might try crossposting from Dreamwidth just to let folk know that for about 15 hours and counting, I've been completely locked out of Lj - my own and everyone else's. Can't even get in enough to contact them to ask why I can't get in...::sigh::

So I'm not ignoring anyone. LJ is doing it for me..*g*

Fannish frolics last month included driving crack_van for Starsky and Hutch, which was fun as I got to shamelessly indulge in some of my favourite authors. Makes it my fourth time in the van now - twice for The Sentinel and once for Pros this time last year. But the van is an odd duck, is it not? A lot of the time it feels like throwing pebbles down a very deep well; a solitary thing that is fun for the thrower, but which no one else notices all that much (with the exception of Pros, I think. I *loved* how excited we all got when we had that shot at the Van last December:-)). But occasionally folk will comment and find an author or fic they've never read, so that's lovely.

And I'm getting to indulge my recc'ing enthusiasms even more as the new permanent reccer on spnroundtable. My first rec post was J2 in Canada. I think it was erushi who mentioned recently how great the reccing culture is in SPN and I agree. Nearly all the authors I've found and fallen in love with have been from recs on sites like crack_impala, spnroundtable and sawedoff_recs.

As for December, it's Pros. Always has been, always will be. The Discovered in a Christmas Stocking Challenge has kicked off over at discoveredinalj, with all of us signed up for our posting days. Mine is the 21st and I'm dead impressed with myself because I will probably get it done this week. Which is good as I have a challenge fic for the hoodie_time(Sick!Dean) comm to move my arse on. And for some reason a prompt involving Sam Winchester as a duckling is running around my brain for one of the new comment fic memes.

So a-scribbling I will go..

And as a by the by, I have to do a bit of a clearance of my f-list. I've been putting it off because de-friending is just not something I like the idea of, but what with all the shiny pretties, my list is getting unmanageable and I'm missing things. So if we haven't commented on any of each other's posts in a long while, it might be time to hug, clap each other on the back, and walk away with a lot of nice memories and no hard feelings.

EDIT: Just checked a couple of friends' lists, and this is not showing up *at all*, which... what?? LJ read Dec 1st and some weird time this morning, I updated it, and apparently sent my lj down a wormhole in the process... ::sigh::

Okay, so here's the thing. I fancy watching this show. The idea of it has gradually piqued my interest, and it sounds like something I might enjoy. So I went to Amazon in the UK to check out the DVDs, and Holy Mary Mother of God, how can one season be a stunning 41 pounds, and the box set 87 pounds? I bought 3 seasons of Supernatural for about 30 pounds last year. Ditto West Wing, Angel, Starsky and Hutch, Pros, and Life on Mars. None of them were anything near that price.

No way I can afford that, so here's my question. I know there are a few Due South folk on my f-flist - so, any clue as to *why* it's so friggin' expensive, and more importantly, does anyone know where I can maybe download and have a look at the first season at least?

You can tell by the title just in which direction I chose to go after 5.09 'The Real Ghostbusters'.*g*

Gen, around 950~, the inspiration for this came from something Dean said to Castiel in 5.03, and it's respectfully dedicated in all its lunacy to cheering up my gal, ancastar, who gets home from hospital this Thursday. So sweetie, I love you an' all? But this *is* kind of your fault:-))

What with storms and power cuts, I couldn't quite get this one out before 5.09 aired.

Gen (I think these codas will all be gen), this one came in around 2,000 words and was helped, cajoled and beta'd into shape by the marvellous ancastar. If anything still jumps out at you, it's down to me.

I should say upfront that the Trickster was too good an opportunity to let go by, and I used this coda to go back and deal with some 'Mystery Spot' issues that I think we were all hoping Show would.

To this end, I have cribbed and tweaked a speech of Sam's from my own Mystery Spot fic Staring In . Because, dammit, that is what the boy said.*g*

This is my early Christmas present from the marvellously talented ancastar, so this is by no means a drive-by. If no one minds, I'm gonna take some time to savour this.

In 2005, I spent a month in Texas and Louisiana where I discovered and fell in love with the band Blue October. Fronted by two brothers from Texas, one of whom writes and sings about his fair share of personal demons, when SPN rolled around, I just knew that their vocals, style and lyrics would match up perfectly with Sam and Dean. Not having one whit of vidding skills, I batted my eyes prettily at An when I stayed with her this summer, made her lots of nice salads, bonded with Milo, and she caved, saying if I picked the song, she would make me a Supernatural vid to it for Christmas.

Heh.

Armed with lyrics and sound files, we spent an evening going over some of the songs and ideas in my fevered little fannish brain. Her being an angel, she picked the song I loved the most..

And I was right.

It's perfect.

Though even I did not realise just how perfect until her talented hands worked their magic on it. If you want to see just how brilliantly Sam'n'Dean appropriate this song is, then go under the cut for the lyrics. For those who'd like to cut to the chase, just go to the link and watch. It's not Wincest, it's simply Sam'n'Dean from the pilot to S5. The lyrics let her get two POVs in, (the switch to Dean's near the end is positively wibble inducing), she bookended it with the perfect choice of clips and dialogue, and she filled it up inbetween with the epic bromance that is Sam and Dean, in all its joys, trials and tribulations.
