Dean stared at the sky, hoping to find some kind of answer there. The stars were awesome, vast, and eternal. They made him feel small like they always had, but knowing there was something or someone up there who’d taken a personal interest in him and Sam scared the hell out of Dean. It made no sense. He and Sam were nothing, just a couple of brothers from Kansas, and yet he’d been told that they were the key to the fate of everything.

Dean was sick to death of being so damn important. And he was pissed. This had gone on long enough, and he’d had enough of being screwed around for the benefit of immortal creatures who would never, ever understand what it was like to take care of a kid brother.

It's a round 1 thing apparently, and I have no idea who the judges are and didn't even know I'd been nominated, but for the name of the thing alone, I am happy and chuffed - "Hey mum, I just got a Deep Throat award! That's nice dear ... sorry, what?"

Waaaaay back when this started life as a flashfic written to one of their four word prompts. Yeah, right. Somewhere along the way it grew into 1,860 words that I tapped out and tweaked whenever I had time. It has now been beta'd by the lovely mara_snh, and the only way it resembles a Flashslash fic is that the 4 word prompts are still there.

Laura says I can post it up at flashslash too, which is very sweet of her.

Outside the cut I'd also like to thump my tail ever so sweetly and ask for some fic recs, ones connected to S4 episodes which some folk here on my f-list might have read and loved, and which I avoided like the plague at the time so that I wouldn't be spoiled. Around any of the eps, especially the latter half of the season, would be wonderful. Gen, Wincest, all okay. And Castiel fic is fine, too - I do love him - but not as a slash pairing with Dean.

I'm going to throw my net out on one of the comms and ask there too, but my f-list I know, love and trust, so if any of you are hugging some magnificent S4 fics to your chest, open up and let me see.

The world looks brighter today, especially since the posting schedule for the Big Bang fics over at spn_j2_bigbang has now started. Yay!! 20,000+ word fics almost daily, and for what? Two months?

So that's summer taken care of, I guess.*g*

First out the starting gate for me last night was a work of utter genius, and one which I have no idea how to describe or rec. The Incestuous Courtship of the AntiChrist's Bride by fleshflutter. It's Crack!Horror, it's Sam trying to take the path of least destruction to get to hell, it's Dean as Sacred Whore Beloved Consort, it's the angels and demons all hanging out together, it's Sam pouring out his woes to Lucifer via Hotel California, it's laugh aloud funny and smart, and it still manages to be touching, sweet, hot, profound, and a million other things inbetween.

A double drabble. Just because I miss writing like a limb and because I paid a deposit on my sleep debt this afternoon. This started life as a comment fic for paxlux, but I thought I could take it further so here it is. The lovely ancastar ran her beta eyes over it, and is now for her because she's not feeling well. Rest up, hon.

Sense Memories

The smell of creosote was one, freshly cut grass was another. So Dean guessed they must have had a fence and a lawn once upon a time. Not that he could fit the idea of mowing grass on a Sunday with anything he knew about his life and his father, but he figured the grass must have been cut regularly to keep it down, to keep it nice. Like his mom would have wanted.

So sometimes when that sound drifted in, it would pull at his thoughts and make him swallow. If things were just right, he let it. If nothing hurt and needed fixing, if Sam was breathing safe and loud in the next bed, if coffee and salt were right there, then he would lie back with his eyes closed and see himself out there in the grass with his dad; helping, getting underfoot, even playing in the cuttings. He always breathed in deep to let the moment go all the way, though. Because if the world was still enough, then the hum and whirr of a lawn mower on a summer morning was not just his dad, but also the faint, sweet sound of a child giggling.

So yay!!!!! The last three episodes of Supernatural S4 have now arrived and been put into my hot little hands, thanks to the magnificent mara_snh, whose minion forever I shall be.

A couple of recs ‘afore I go then, as I promised debbiel66 and really, any excuse. So how about a couple of SPN writers I’m reading everything of these days? What follows is my usual mix of slash, gen and quotes – all quotes are mostly dialogue based because it’s what I love so, and the slash ones are completely safe for non Sam/Dean folk.

I was going to get a nice little rec post together this evening, as I haven't done one in a while and you know me and the way I love to rec and quote. But it has all gone the way of a handbasket now, I'm afraid, because I have just staggered off the sofa after watching the S4 episode,'On The Head Of A Pin'.

Or not, actually.

Anyway, I am traumatised, and fiercely in love with Kripke, Dean, Sammy, Castiel, Anna, and with that stunning actor who has creeped me out forever as Alastair. Words fail me at how wrenched around I feel.

Except to say how much I *love* this brilliant show of ours.

Off to calm down with a glass of wine and 'Criminal Minds'. As one does.

Close Quarters for The Great Pros Watch Catch-Up

I did post this one up first time around, but only at my LJ, and I didn't do 'Headscratchers' or 'Ten Things..', so what with any excuse to rewatch'n all...

- and besides, had a highly stressful day at the salt mines today ( why are people in charge of things such oxygen thieves??), so Bodie chewing the scenery and Doyle trying to rescue it from his clutches were just the balm I needed.*g*

I've been a good girl and spent three days editing out about a thousand words from my zine story for Jess. And much as it hurt to do so, she's right, and it undoubtedly tells a better story now. But I still have an inordinate fondness for the two chunks I took out, and with a bit of tweaking I realised one of them could stand alone as a time-stamp scene.

So here it is, set somewhere inside With A Dark Lantern. If you haven't read that, don't worry. All you need to know is that it's post-DIAG, pre-slash, and Bodie is sharing a flat with a slowly recovering Doyle.

Miles behind I know. But what with multi-fandom drabbling, extra curricular examining (there is nothing like a bunch of underprepared 9-year-olds that you have to smile at and language test for hours on end to knock the enthusiasm for life right out of you), and 10 episodes of Supernatural to catch up on, I seem to have fallen a tad behind. But today is a holiday here, so I'm having a Pros-y day. First an expanded recap of 'Heroes' from last week, then I'll settle in with 'Where The Jungle Ends' for this week, and then I'll work on the edit for my Pros zine story for NFA II.

Lads, here I come..

So first up, Heroes.

The one where 70s clunk abounds, where have-a-go Joe Public um.. has a go, and then gets royally screwed for it. Where Mad Tommy has his brief moment in the sun - and in a much cooler car than Bodie and Doyle – and where Bodie gets to cheer Cowley up and tell Doyle all about the lubrication he needs.

See folks? It really *is* canon.

It’s something they do now, before a hunt. Too many deals, devils and demons have happened for them to ever take each other breathing and whole for granted again. It’s a little ritual Sam took a deep breath and asked for, and which Dean accepted. After calling him Samantha and having a shitload of fun with it first, of course.

“Hey,” Sam stops and then glares, holding his arms out. “Dude. Always with the reminding.”

Dean rolls his eyes and sighs, but he walks back into the room so that he and Sam can hug, guns careful over each other’s shoulders.

Okay, shall post these up in two parts. I've got four done and three to go (yup, Kat, doing you one too - how about I pick the fandom from the ones we share??)
